Letter to the Fire Chief INFO 298 Special Studies

Chief ____________

____________Fire Company

__________Connecticut

Dear Chief___________,

I am writing to ask if the __________ Fire Company is interested in an opportunity to participate in a neighborhood book outreach. I think that the fire company’s property is an ideal spot for a little free library book box.

I am a graduate student pursuing a degree in Library & Information Science. This summer, I am doing an independent study on little free library book exchanges. My goal is to establish a little free library in the Quaker Hill section of Waterford, CT.

As you know, the Quaker Hill neighborhood does not have its own library. Residents of the village of Quaker Hill have access to the wonderful Waterford Public Library. The only drawback is that it takes about 20 minutes to drive from the Quaker Hill section of town to Waterford Public Library.

The Waterford Public Library book return box at the Quaker Hill ________is very helpful! Adding a Little Free Library in Quaker Hill village will give residents ready access to books, and will make these materials available particularly to children and elderly residents who do not have easy access to transportation.

There is no cost to the fire company. We will have volunteers set up the little library, and I will be the library's caretaker on an ongoing basis. Perhaps there is room near the lot on Sunshine Rd. for a little book box.

Please let me know what you think about having a little free library in the vicinity of the fire house.

Thanks for all you do!

Best regards,

Karla
